I grew up in Jamaica in my fathers bar hearing the song, I loved this song but never knew there would come a day that the true meaning would be directed at me to relive here is what it said the circumstances is different but the thought process is the same
Shirley Caesar – A little boy came into the kitchen one day while his mother was fixing dinner and he handed her a piece of paper he has been writing on and after wiping her hands on her apron she took it out of his hand and read it and this is what it said :
for mowing the yard $5, for making my own bed $1, for going to the store $.50, for playing with my little brother while you went shopping $.25, taking out the trash $1 and for getting a good report card $5 raking the yard $2 total owed $14.75 🙂
Well she looked at him standing there expecting and a thousand memories flash in her mind so she picked up the pen turn the paper over and this is what she wrote – for the 9 months I carried you growing inside of me NO CHARGE for the nights I sat up with you doctored you prayed for you NO CHARGE, for the time and the tears and the cost threw the years there is NO CHARGE SON when you add it all up the full cost of my love is NO CHARGE, for nights filled with Dreds and the worries ahead NO CHARGE, for advice and the knowledge and the cost of your college NO CHARGE, for the toys food and clothes and for wiping your nose there is NO CHARGE son when you add it all up the full cost of my love is NO CHARGE.
That’s the song the words are powerful it came to me full force recently with a different start but one in the same concept, it’s ok to remind your kids that there is no value on your love for them.
